AI is Everywhere. Clarity is not.

There is no shortage of conversation about AI. New tools, new claims, new possibilities appear almost daily.

For many organisations, it is difficult to separate what matters from what does not. The pressure to act is real, but so is the risk of moving too quickly without a clear understanding of the problem you are trying to solve.

That is where we believe the focus should be.

Start with the problem, not the technology

AI is not a strategy. It is a capability.

The most valuable applications of AI do not begin with the question “how can we use AI?” but rather “what are we trying to improve?”

  • Is it reducing the burden of managing content?
  • Improving how users find what they need?
  • Creating more responsive, accessible digital services?

In our experience, clarity at this stage avoids wasted effort later.

Not everything needs AI

There is a tendency to assume AI is always the answer. It is not.

In some cases, simpler solutions will be more effective, more robust, and easier to maintain. In others, AI can unlock meaningful improvements that would not otherwise be possible.

Our role is to make that distinction clearly and honestly. To recommend AI where it adds value, and to challenge its use where it does not.

From possibility to practical application

One of the biggest gaps we see is between what AI could do and what is realistic within the context of an organisation.

Questions around governance, data quality, accessibility, and long-term sustainability are often overlooked in early conversations.

These are not secondary concerns. They are fundamental to whether a solution will succeed.

A considered approach connects opportunity with reality. It turns possibility into something that can be implemented, maintained, and trusted.

Strategy and delivery need to stay connected

As with any big decision regards a website or digital services it's crucial to start with a strategy. Ideally one based on insights and user research.

Being clear about what is known, what is still emerging, and where caution is needed.

Understanding how IA capability will affect content, structure, user experience, and ongoing management.

Clear thinking, applied carefully

AI will continue to evolve quickly. That will not change.

What matters is how we respond to that change.

Our approach is straightforward.

  1. Understand the problem.
  2. Ask the right questions.
  3. Apply technology where it genuinely improves outcomes.

Clear thinking, applied carefully, leads to better results than reacting to every new development.

And in a space as fast-moving as AI, that clarity is more valuable than ever.
