A vibrant new website for a globally recognised literary city

What we did
- Discovery and Strategy
- Content Design
- Website Design
- Website Development
We helped Dublin UNESCO City of Literature define their digital goals and delivered a vibrant, accessible website that clearly reflects their mission and work.
Challenge
Dublin is one of only a handful of cities worldwide designated as a UNESCO City of Literature, an honour that reflects its rich literary heritage and ongoing commitment to creativity, education and engagement. But the organisation’s existing website didn’t communicate this status clearly, and it struggled to reflect the scale or impact of its work.
The previous website lacked clarity, structure and energy, it didn’t show what the organisation did, or who it was for. A new digital presence was needed that would support their public mission, promote participation, and accurately represent the vibrancy of the literary life in Ireland’s capital city.
Approach
We began with a discovery phase to clarify objectives, audience needs and internal requirements. This led to a clear website strategy — connecting organisational goals to user experience and design principles. That upfront thinking set the stage for a smooth, efficient design and development process.

Collaborating on a Brand Refresh
During the discovery phase, it became clear that there was a need for a new visual identity. By identifying needs before the design phase, we avoided potential roadblocks further down the line. We recommended an experienced brand designer and collaborated closely with him throughout the project to deliver a new logo and visual identity that worked for the organisation's needs and new website.
Accessible by Design
Creating a fully accessible website was an essential factor throughout the project. The site was designed and coded to not just meet WCAG 2.2 criteria but goes beyond this to ensure ease of use for a wide range of audiences.

What We Delivered
- Discovery, User Research and Digital Strategy
- Content Design and Copywriting Support
- Website Design and Development
- Collaboration on Brand Refresh
- Fully Accessible (WCAG 2.2 AA+) Website
The Impact
The new website is confident, welcoming and clear — just like the organisation it represents. Content is logically structured, visually engaging, and easy for the team to update. The events calendar and resource sections are built for exploration and accessibility, and small touches like page-turn animations evoke the joy of reading without overwhelming the user experience.
