As they approached their 50th anniversary, the renowned Druid Theatre in Galway needed a website redesign that presented their impressive history and set them up for the future.
The Challenge
We worked with Druid Theatre to clarify the function and purpose of their new website. We agreed on the description of a ‘look and feel’ that could support this and represent them accurately. The site was designed and built to achieve both the organisational goals and meet the needs of site users.
Telling a 50-year story
We helped Druid share their 50-year story with today’s audience. We achieved this by presenting an interactive timeline that invites the users to browse milestones, stories and images.
We created a visual interface that reflects the company’s artistic excellence and blends subtle refinement with a relevant, contemporary approach using high-quality, engaging imagery, earthy colours and elegant typography.
The design supports both immediacy and depth: clear pathways to key production information and ticket booking sit alongside a carefully structured archive that celebrates fifty years of ambitious theatre. Fully responsive, the site delivers a seamless experience across devices, ensuring Druid’s story and work remain accessible wherever audiences encounter it.

Showcasing craft
When designing the site map and information architecture, we worked to ensure that current productions were foregrounded, while the breath of past productions was easy to find. Photographs of dramatic scenes take centre stage on the homepage and event pages, highlighting current productions, inviting the user into their stories and showcasing the visual quality of Druid’s productions. In the archive, shows live on through clearly laid-out, rich information, rehearsal videos and reviews.
Ease of Use
The new website we delivered is designed for accessibility and easy navigation. Accessing information, booking tickets or becoming a partner are now seamless, user-friendly experiences.
It is also simple for the team to add new productions in the back end, while still giving flexibility with features, like an adjustable highlight colour allows Druid to choose the brand colour that best compliments photos from different productions.
Outcome
- Meets Web Accessibility Guidelines WCAG 2.1 Level AA
- Craft CMS allows the Druid team to easily update the site, ensuring the latest information on is always available.
