Accessibility Audit

We carried out an accessibility audit of a large-scale e-learning platform for one of Ireland’s leading professional bodies. The organisation needed clear, actionable insight to help improve digital inclusion and align with WCAG 2.1 AA and European Accessibility Act requirements.

The goal of the project was to assess compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and support alignment with the European Accessibility Act (EAA).

We conducted an in-depth accessibility audit combining manual testing, assistive technology review, and clear, prioritised guidance to help the organisation deliver more inclusive digital learning experiences.

Objectives

  • Identify accessibility barriers for users with disabilities
  • Support compliance with WCAG 2.1 Level AA and EN 301 549
  • Provide actionable, prioritised remediation guidance

Approach

Given the size and complexity of the platform, with thousands of pages and multiple user roles, we applied a representative sampling strategy to target the most critical journeys and templates.

Our process included:

  • Manual WCAG testing
  • Screen reader and assistive tech evaluation
  • Structural and content accessibility checks
  • A developer-friendly report with clear next steps

Outcome

The organisation now has clarity on the accessibility status of its learning platform, and a roadmap for improvement. We identified:

  • Quick wins for immediate action
  • Short-term fixes for upcoming development cycles
  • Longer-term improvements to plan for sustainably

The final report outlined what needs to be done, why it matters, how long it might take, along with the level of effort involved, giving the client the confidence to move forward.
